The Schwinn 411 is the newest edition to the Schwinn elliptical trainer range and is the updated model of the Schwinn A40.  Despite their compact size, the Schwinn A40 and 411 still offer a generous stride length, with the Schwinn 411 having an 18” stride length and the Schwinn A40 having a 17.5” stride length – just 2” or 2.5” shorter than the 20” stride length found on the larger and more expensive Schwinn 430 and 470 elliptical trainers.

Being the newer model, the Schwinn 411’s overall design has been updated and it has an upgraded console with more programs and resistance levels compared to the older Schwinn A40 elliptical trainer.  The Schwinn 411 offers 13 workout programs and 16 levels of ECB magnetic resistance compared to the Schwinn A40’s 7 programs and 8 magnetic resistance levels.

Both the Schwinn A40 and 411 consoles are straightforward and easy to use, but the Schwinn 411 Elliptical Trainer’s console has a slight larger LCD screen at 5.5” compared to the A40’s 5” screen.  Both consoles track and display motivating workout stats as you exercise including data such as time, speed, distance, calories burned and heart-rate.  The Schwinn 411 is powered by an included AC adapter whereas the Schwinn A40’s console is powered by 4x D batteries.

Both consoles feature a handy media shelf to place a mobile phone/tablet to keep entertained as you exercise.  The older Schwinn A40 has the addition of audio speakers which the newer Schwinn 411 does not have.

Both the Schwinn A40 and 411 Elliptical Trainers offer contact pulse grip heart-rate monitoring but the Schwinn 411 has the addition of telemetry heart-rate monitoring for more accuracy.

Both the Schwinn A40 and 411 Elliptical Trainers are ergonomically designed for user comfort, featuring dual (static and moving handlebars) and articulating footplates with precision-path foot motion technology, along with a non-slip design.

Both elliptical trainers are sturdily constructed, with the Schwinn 411 weighing around 100 lbs and the Schwinn A40 weighing around 105 lbs.  The Schwinn 411 supports a higher user weight capacity of up to 300 lbs compared to the Schwinn A40’s maximum 275 lbs user weight capacity.

Summary:

Both the Schwinn A40 and Schwinn 411 are quality elliptical machines designed with a compact footprint that makes them ideal for home use.  At a very affordable price, these elliptical trainers punch well above their weight and could easily compete with some of the machines in the more expensive categories.

The generous stride length on these Schwinn compact ellipticals is a great find as many compact machines typically only come with a 14” or 16” stride length.  Both machines are surprisingly well made for such a low price and operate super smoothly and quietly and will stand the test of time unlike many other low-cost compact machines.

Both machines have a good range of resistance levels and programs but the Schwinn 411, being the newer model, has greater variety plus the addition of Bluetooth connectivity to the RunSocial App for even more workouts, so if you’re the sort of person who gets bored easily then the Schwinn 411 is the elliptical machine for you.  If you’re not too bothered about the additional programs/resistance levels then you may still be able to buy the older Schwinn A40 at a bargain price!

N.B.  It’s always advisable to consult your doctor or health care professional before undertaking any new exercise regime.
